After a series of consumer reports claiming that a foreign substance suspected to be mold was found in dessert products sold at the coffee franchise 'Paikdabang', the operating company Theborn Korea has initiated an inspection of its manufacturing and distribution processes.

On the 20th, Theborn Korea stated, "We deeply apologize to our customers regarding the discovery of a foreign substance in the frozen dessert 'Gaba Babal Tteok' sold at some stores recently," and added, "We are currently conducting a thorough inspection of the manufacturer's supply and distribution processes, and depending on the results, we will take necessary actions such as considering a full recall."

The company further explained, "The product is delivered to stores as a frozen finished product, and franchise locations only defrost and sell the required quantity," adding, "Upon store inspection, there were no issues with the expiration date or the best-before date." The company also noted that it is negotiating with customers who discovered the foreign substance through insurance claims, and will respond according to the appropriate procedures.

On the 17th, a post titled "Be careful with Paikdabang Gaba Babal Tteok" appeared on the anonymous university student community 'Everytime'. The author wrote, "I received this product via delivery from a store in Seoul, and there was mold on it," and included a photo of the product showing a white foreign substance.

Previously, on the 8th, a similar post was uploaded to another community. The author stated, "I ordered the dessert for delivery on May 3, and there was a foreign substance that appeared to be mold," attaching a photo of the product. The author claimed, "Theborn Korea said it was a manufacturer issue, and the manufacturer offered 100,000 won as compensation out of moral responsibility." The author also added, "I was told that compensation would be difficult because I did not visit a hospital immediately after consuming the product."

Theborn Korea stated, "The company also feels a heavy sense of responsibility regarding the occurrence of such incidents," and added, "We will further strengthen quality control to prevent similar cases from recurring."

Paikdabang is a coffee franchise brand operated by Theborn Korea, led by CEO Baek Jongwon, and primarily sells coffee and convenient desserts.
