MS Unveils New AI Agents and Platforms
at Build 2025 Developer Conference
Microsoft (MS) has declared the beginning of an era in which artificial intelligence (AI) agents will make decisions on behalf of individuals and organizations.
On May 19 (local time), MS made this announcement at its annual developer conference, "Build 2025," held in Seattle, Washington, USA.
At this conference, MS presented its vision for a future in which companies utilize AI agents for a wide range of tasks. The company also explained that its AI agent creation platform, "Azure AI Foundry," enables businesses to independently build their own agents.
Additionally, MS introduced "Microsoft Discovery," an AI agent platform designed to accelerate innovation in scientific fields such as drug development and environmental research. MS projected that this platform would help research and development departments across various industries shorten the time required to launch new products and expand both the speed and scope of research overall.
MS also announced that its various products, including Windows, now support the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard developed by AI startup Anthropic. MCP is an interface protocol that allows large language models (LLMs) to interact with a variety of external tools and data.
Alongside these developments, MS unveiled a new AI coding agent called "GitHub Copilot." Unlike previous versions that only provided code auto-completion for certain segments, this AI agent can generate entire codebases based on simple instructions and then request users to review the output.
MS emphasized, "With advancements in AI reasoning and memory technologies, AI agents capable of self-learning and decision-making are evolving," and stressed, "We have entered an era in which AI makes decisions and performs tasks on behalf of individuals and organizations."
MS further announced that the Grok 3 model, developed by xAI?an AI company founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk?will be available on its Azure cloud service. Grok 3 is xAI's latest model, released in February. At the time of its release, CEO Musk described it as "the smartest AI on Earth."
This move demonstrates MS's efforts to collaborate with other AI companies to reduce its reliance on ChatGPT in its cloud services, despite its partnership with OpenAI. In the previous quarter, MS recorded a 33% growth rate in its cloud services division, surpassing market expectations.
Meanwhile, during the event, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman introduced the latest developments in AI via video, stating, "AI agents are now capable of handling far more tasks than before." Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also highlighted how much faster AI has become in recent years and demonstrated how the company's CUDA software platform for its proprietary chips can significantly accelerate processing speeds.
