Listening to Opinions on the Development of Seoul Metro and Improvement of Employee Working Conditions on May 16
Choi Hojung, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, held a meeting on May 16 with the Right Labor Union, which serves as the third labor union of Seoul Metro and is recognized as the leading MZ generation union.
The meeting was organized to listen to opinions on the development of Seoul Metro and the improvement of working conditions for its employees.
The meeting took place at the office of the Right Labor Union located at Noksapyeong Station and was attended by ten union members, including Chairperson Song Siyoung and Secretary General Jeong Unyong.
Members of the Right Labor Union made several suggestions during the meeting, including: difficulties in receiving various allowances such as overtime pay due to the total labor cost system; the need to reestablish night work supervision allowances and to improve the system so that external supervisors can oversee construction supervision; the need to reflect realistic supply prices when manufacturing new vehicles; making decisions on service extension based on accurate data; and fostering a work culture that supports work-life balance.
Union Chairperson Song Siyoung stated, "The proportion of employees resigning within three years continues to increase every year," and added, "With frequent service extensions and additional train operations, I hope a work environment can be created where employees are properly compensated for their work."
Chairperson Choi Hojung said, "I am grateful to all the employees who work hard so that citizens can travel comfortably," and added, "Since improving the working conditions of Seoul Metro employees is directly connected to citizen safety, I will closely review what improvements can be made."
