Gwangju Office of Education to Establish Department of Character and Student Life Education and Gwangsan Education Support Center

The Gwangju Office of Education announced on May 19 that it will establish the Department of Character and Student Life Education and the Gwangsan Education Support Center, effective July 1.

The office included these changes in the 'Ordinance on the Establishment of Administrative Organizations' and the 'Ordinance on the Number of Local Government Officials,' both of which recently passed the city council's extraordinary session. This reorganization marks the second organizational restructuring of Superintendent Lee Jeongseon's fourth term, which was directly elected.

The Department of Character and Student Life Education is a newly established division designed to systematically support students' life guidance, as well as their psychological, emotional, and mental well-being. It will also take over the alternative education functions previously managed by the Gwangju Office of Education's Citizens' Cooperative Promotion Institute, aiming to respond to the increasing number of out-of-school youth.

Additionally, as a preliminary step toward establishing the Gwangsan Education Support Office, the 'Gwangsan Education Support Center' will open in Hanam 3 District. This center will be responsible for lifelong education, kindergarten, and international education services in the Gwangsan-gu area.

Superintendent Lee Jeongseon stated, "We will implement an administrative system that supports the educational field, including practice-oriented life education," and added, "We will lay a solid foundation for realizing the future of education in Gwangju."
