Hope to Expand Exchanges in Advanced Industries, Culture, and Tourism During Chuncheon Mayor's Visit to China
Mayor Yook Donghan: "I Sympathize with Dalian's Vision... Strengthening Cooperation in Bio Industry and More"
On May 19, Chuncheon City in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yook Donghan) announced that during Mayor Yook Donghan's visit to Dalian City, China, Chen Xiaowang, mayor of Dalian, proposed to strengthen and elevate the relationship between Chuncheon and Dalian to that of sister cities.

On this day, Mayor Yook and Mayor Chen held a meeting for about an hour in the press conference room of the Dalian city government. During the meeting, the two mayors highly valued the potential for continued and further development of exchanges, and expressed their strong commitment to active cooperation.
Mayor Chen emphasized the importance of the role of local governments in Korea-China relations. He stated, "I would like to expand exchanges with Chuncheon not only in advanced industries such as bio, new energy, IT, and artificial intelligence, but also in the fields of culture, sports, tourism, and education." He added, "I hope that both cities can grow together through cooperation with Chuncheon, and I look forward to elevating our relationship to that of sister cities."
In response, Mayor Yook proposed expanding cooperation beyond existing personnel and cultural exchanges to include industrial and technological collaboration. He remarked, "I sympathize with Dalian's vision of openness, advancement, and citizen happiness, and I was greatly impressed by the city's advanced industrial base and the presence of many universities." He continued, "I hope to explore concrete exchange plans, especially in the bio industry sector." Mayor Yook also said, "There is much to learn from Dalian's open and innovative city vision and industrial structure, and I look forward to developing our relationship into a sister city partnership."
Meanwhile, Chuncheon and Dalian have continued exchanges in various fields, including public official exchanges, sports, and cultural events, for 22 years since signing a friendship city agreement in 2003. Chuncheon City plans to further strengthen its future-oriented exchange and cooperation with Dalian, based on the solid friendship and trust between the two cities established through this visit.
Mayor Yook Donghan, who attended the opening ceremony of the Dalian Acacia Festival, participated in a roundtable meeting of friendship cities, and held talks with the mayor of Dalian since May 17, is scheduled to return to Korea on this day.
