Response to National Policy Initiatives Such as the Glocal University 30 Project

Chonnam National University announced on May 19 that it has signed a business agreement for mutual development with the region together with Gwangju National University of Education, Mokpo National University, and Suncheon National University.
The signing ceremony was attended by a total of 12 people, including Lee Geunbae, President of Chonnam National University; Kim Yanghyun, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ko Seongseok, Vice President for Research; Lee Yonggyun, Dean of Academic Affairs; Lee Yunseong, Dean of Research; Jo Jinhyung, Dean of External Cooperation; Lee Kyunghwan, Head of the Future Strategy Office; Heo Seungjun, President of Gwangju National University of Education; Song Hacheol, President of Mokpo National University; and Moon Seungtae, Vice President for External Cooperation at Suncheon National University.
This agreement was established with the aim of building a "one province, one national university shared university model" centered on an AI-based educational ecosystem, and to jointly respond to national policy initiatives such as the "Glocal University 30" project, thereby leading regional innovation.
On this day, the four universities agreed to cooperate in various areas, including: strengthening collaboration for the Glocal University 30 project and regional innovation; sharing capabilities and serving as key educational and research institutions to enhance regional competitiveness; building educational partnerships for nurturing talent in Gwangju and Jeonnam; conducting joint research and development in new industrial fields; and promoting region-specific employment and entrepreneurship. The universities also plan to maintain a flexible cooperation system by allowing the participation of additional institutions in the future, based on mutual agreement.
Heo Seungjun, President of Gwangju National University of Education, stated, "Through this agreement, we will contribute to the local community and faithfully fulfill our responsibilities as a national university."
Song Hacheol, President of Mokpo National University, said, "By 2040, the school-age population is expected to decrease to about half the current level," adding, "I hope this agreement will serve as a turning point for solving regional issues and advancing local development."
Moon Seungtae, Vice President for External Cooperation at Suncheon National University, emphasized, "Until now, universities' contributions to the local community have mostly remained theoretical, with a lack of practical action. I hope this win-win model among the four universities will lead to active and practical implementation."
Lee Geunbae, President of Chonnam National University, said, "The close cooperation among the four national universities representing the region goes beyond a simple partnership; it signifies our commitment to jointly designing a sustainable future for Gwangju and Jeonnam. We will continue to grow together with the region and faithfully fulfill our role as a national university leading regional innovation."
