Professor Kangho Choi of Chonnam National University Hospital Selected for Consecutive National Research Projects

Chonnam National University Hospital announced on May 19 that Professor Kangho Choi from the Department of Neurology has been consecutively selected for national research projects.

Recently, Professor Choi was chosen for the "Patient-Centered Medical Technology Optimization Research Project" by the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA). He will form a consortium with Asan Medical Center and Korea University Hospital, receiving government funding of 175 million won until December 31, 2026.

As the principal investigator, Professor Choi plans to identify optimal patient-centered healthcare technologies for stroke through this nationally funded public clinical research. In particular, he aims to establish medical evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of widely used treatments for various types of cerebral infarction, striving to provide more reliable medical services to stroke patients.

In addition, Professor Choi was also selected for the "AI-based Medical System Digital Transformation Support Project" by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) under the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Through this project, Professor Choi will receive approximately 1.74 billion won over two years and, together with Kyungpook National University Hospital, Chungnam National University Hospital, and the leading company Huron, will distribute and validate an AI precision medical solution for stroke that has received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. By introducing this digital innovation technology to public healthcare institutions and utilizing it in medical and health management, Professor Choi aims to enhance the quality of public healthcare services.

In particular, through this AI digital transformation project, Chonnam National University Hospital is expected to contribute to the development of the upcoming "New Smart Hospital."

Professor Choi stated, "Through the Patient-Centered Medical Technology Optimization Research Project, I will enhance the public value of patient-centered care, and through the AI-based Medical System Digital Transformation Project, I will contribute to distributing innovative AI technology in our region in line with the new AI era."
