On May 18 (local time), at the Greystone Golf & Country Club (par 72) in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, Yang Yongun reduced his score by three strokes over 14 holes in the final 4th round of the PGA Tour Champions Regions Tradition (total prize money of $2.6 million) before play was suspended due to severe weather followed by sunset. He is currently tied for third place at 17-under-par, just one shot off the lead, putting him in a position where a comeback is entirely possible over the remaining four holes. The rest of the round is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. local time on May 19.
Yang Yongun recorded four birdies (with one bogey). He shaved two strokes off his score in the front nine with birdies on the 2nd hole (par 5) and the 7th hole (par 3), then paused his momentum with a bogey on the 11th hole (par 4). He regained his pace with consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes before play was halted due to sunset. Yang Yongun claimed his first senior tour victory at last year's Ascension Charity Classic.
Angel Cabrera (Argentina) and Jerry Kelly (USA) are currently tied for the lead at 18-under-par. KJ Choi and Steven Alker (New Zealand) are tied for fourth place at 16-under-par, two shots back and still in contention for a comeback. Miguel Angel Jimenez (Spain) finished tied for ninth at 13-under-par 275, while Ernie Els (South Africa) wrapped up the tournament tied for 19th at 10-under-par 278.
