"230 Billion Won Saved in Fees"
Hana Card announced on the 19th that the cumulative foreign exchange amount for its Travelog service has surpassed 4 trillion won just 2 years and 10 months after its launch.
Travelog is Hana Financial Group's flagship overseas travel service, allowing users to exchange 58 currencies for free via the Hana Money app and use the Travelog card anywhere in the world without fees.
The number of Travelog subscribers has grown rapidly. After first surpassing 1 trillion won in exchanged currency in December 2023, just 18 months after launch, the service has grown more than fourfold in the following 1 year and 5 months. Industry analysis attributes this rapid growth to the introduction of a real-time currency exchange service available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from anywhere.
For example, two limited edition KakaoPay Travelog check cards (10,000 issued in total), launched on April 30, sold out within just four days of release.
These cards, featuring Kakao's popular characters Chunsik and Ryan and unique designs reflecting characteristics of different countries, are said to have strongly appealed to the tastes of the MZ generation.
As the customer base grew, so did the benefits. Since the launch, customers have collectively saved more than 230 billion won in the three main types of fees typically incurred when traveling abroad.
Specifically, from launch until the 18th of this month, over the past 2 years and 10 months, the breakdown is as follows: 136.9 billion won saved through free currency exchange (100% preferential exchange rates); 65.1 billion won saved by waiving overseas transaction fees; and 35.6 billion won saved through exemption from overseas ATM withdrawal fees.
On average, this means that all Travelog users together have saved about 230 million won in fees every day.
Seong Yeongsu, CEO of Hana Card, said, "Travelog has transformed the foreign exchange experience by enabling digital currency exchange anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with just a mobile phone." He added, "It has eliminated the anxiety of carrying cash and the fear of theft, allowing travelers to focus entirely on the experiences, value, and happiness that travel brings."
He emphasized, "Travelog will continue to be an essential companion for overseas travel, accompanying customers as they explore the world."
