Full-Scale Launch of Customized Arts Education by Life Stage Across Yeongdeok
The Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation has been officially selected for the 2025 "Kkumdarag Culture and Arts School Community-Based Program," a cultural and arts education support project organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.
The "Kkumdarag Culture and Arts School Community-Based Program" is a mid- to long-term project aimed at bridging cultural gaps in the region and expanding opportunities for everyday enjoyment of the arts through customized cultural and arts education tailored to different life stages.
Through this project, the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation will receive 100 million won in national funding annually, totaling 300 million won over three years, to actively promote community-based cultural and arts education.
This initiative goes beyond simple education, focusing on enriching local lives through the arts and fostering connections between generations. The foundation plans to support residents in experiencing art in their daily lives through "visiting arts education" programs held at village halls and unused community spaces. In addition, local artists and young people will collaborate to plan and operate these programs, laying the groundwork for a sustainable cultural foundation. The foundation also aims to strengthen its role as a hub for local cultural and arts education and to build a foundation for community recovery and cultural self-reliance.
The programs will consist of three main offerings: a drumline class for children and youth; a documentation project for middle-aged and older residents in wildfire-affected villages titled "Again, Drawing This Place"; and "Youth Healing Silver Ballet," a ballet and arts education program for seniors. Each program will reflect the physical and emotional characteristics and needs of its target age group and will incorporate the cultural background and life context of the Yeongdeok area.
A foundation representative expressed high expectations for the project, stating, "We believe this initiative will provide an opportunity for different generations living in Yeongdeok to understand and empathize with each other through the arts and to regain vitality in their lives." The representative added, "We will continue our efforts to ensure that cultural and arts education becomes a natural part of local life and that a resident-led cultural community can grow."
Recruitment for participants in the 2025 "Kkumdarag Culture and Arts School Community-Based Program" will begin in June, with the main educational activities scheduled to run from July through November. Detailed schedules and application methods will be available on the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation website in June.
