Worker Fatality at SPC Samlip Siwha Plant in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province
CEO Kim Beomsoo: "With a Heavy Sense of Responsibility, I Apologize to the Bereaved Family"
Kim Beomsoo, CEO of SPC Samlip, issued an official statement and formally apologized on May 19 regarding the fatal workplace accident that occurred at the Siwha plant.
CEO Kim stated, "I offer my deepest condolences for the loss of life in this tragic accident at our plant, and I extend my heartfelt apologies and sympathy to the bereaved family." He continued, "With a heavy sense of responsibility, I will do everything in my power to manage the aftermath of the incident and to prevent any recurrence." He added, "We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the relevant authorities and are making every effort to determine the exact cause of the accident and to implement appropriate follow-up measures. Immediately after the accident, we suspended all plant operations, and we will also work to support the psychological well-being of the colleagues who were working in the same area at the time."
The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on the same day at the SPC Samlip Siwha plant in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. According to the Siheung Police Station, a female worker in her 50s, identified as Ms. A, died at the scene after part of her body became caught in machinery while she was applying lubricant to production equipment. The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by securing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the factory and interviewing employees who were on duty at the time.
