Playoff Victory at SK Telecom Open
Third Career Win, 260 Million Won Prize
Taehun Lee Runner-up, Taehee Lee and Minhyuk Song Share Third Place
Jaewung Eom has achieved his third career victory.
On May 18, at the Pinx Golf Club (par 71, 7,326 yards) in Seogwipo, Jeju Island, Jaewung Eom shot a 4-under-par 67 in the final third round of the SK Telecom Open on the Korean Professional Golf (KPGA) Tour (total prize money: 1.3 billion won). He finished tied with Taehun Lee (Canada) at 11-under-par 202, and then secured the win with a bogey on the first hole of the playoff, which resumed at the 18th hole (par 4). This marks his third career victory, following the Huons Celebrity Pro-Am in September 2018 and the Baeksong Holdings-Asiad CC Busan Open in October 2023. The winner’s prize is 260 million won.
This tournament was shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes due to severe weather, and the final round was played in a shotgun format. Jaewung Eom started at the 3rd hole (par 4) and made five birdies (with one bogey). Although he had a shaky start with a bogey at the 5th hole (par 3), he changed the momentum with consecutive birdies at the 8th and 9th holes, followed by back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th holes, and another birdie at the 1st hole (par 4) to climb to the top of the leaderboard.
In the first playoff hole, Jaewung Eom gained the advantage by reaching the green in regulation, while Taehun Lee’s second shot landed in a bunker and he failed to escape with his third shot, resulting in a double bogey. Jaewung Eom secured the win with a three-putt bogey. He said, "My goal this year was to win once. I feel like I was able to win thanks to a bit of luck," and added, "I want to focus on the Korean Tour and lift even more championship trophies."
Taehee Lee, Minhyuk Song, Junggon Hwang, Hyungjun Lee, and Minsu Kim performed well, tying for third place at 10-under-par 203. Jaehan Jeon, Jiho Yang, and Jaemin Hwang shared eighth place at 9-under-par 204. Bio Kim and Sangmoon Bae tied for 11th at 8-under-par 205, while Jinho Choi, Taehun Ok, and Mingyu Kim tied for 18th at 6-under-par 207. Yongjun Bae finished tied for 23rd at 5-under-par 208. K.J. Choi concluded the tournament tied for 33rd at 3-under-par 210.
