This inspection was conducted in response to the outbreak of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections that continued until March. RSV is the most common respiratory virus causing pneumonia and bronchiolitis in infants and young children. However, it can cause severe illness in newborns, requiring special attention.

The postpartum care center management departments and infectious disease control departments of the province and cities/counties jointly or independently carried out the inspection from February 27 to April 30.

The main inspection items focused on verifying the infectious disease prevention management system. These included environmental management for infection prevention and control, as well as whether infection prevention guidelines were provided to staff, mothers, and guardians.

As a result of the inspection, six violations were found at five facilities. Specifically, there were three cases of failure to conduct health checkups for staff, and three violations of staffing standards, such as insufficient number of nurses or the absence of nurses on duty at all times.

Gyeonggi Province took administrative measures and issued corrective orders for the violations through the relevant city and county authorities. In the second half of the year, the province plans to conduct follow-up inspections of the affected centers to confirm whether improvements have been made.

Jung Yeonpyo, Director of the Provincial Health Promotion Division, stated, "We will continue to thoroughly monitor compliance with infectious disease and safety accident prevention measures through regular inspections, and strive to create a healthy and safe environment for childbirth."
