Yeawon Lee Achieves 7 Consecutive Wins... "I Am the Match Queen"

Defeats Yumin Hwang in Doosan Matchplay Final
Back-to-back Wins in Two Weeks, Three Titles This Season
Leads in Prize Money, Player of the Year Points, Scoring Average, and Most Wins

Yeawon Lee has been crowned the match queen.

On May 18, at Ladena Golf Club (par 72, 6,384 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, she defeated Yumin Hwang by four holes in the final of the Doosan Matchplay on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, which had a total prize fund of 1 billion won. After winning all three group stage matches to advance to the round of 16, she went on to defeat Da-Yeon Lee, Hyun-Jo Yoo, Jungmin Hong, and Yumin Hwang in succession to claim the title. With this victory, following her win at last week's NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship, she secured back-to-back titles for two consecutive weeks and earned 250 million won in prize money.

This was Yeawon Lee's third win of the season and the ninth of her career. She now leads the tour in prize money, Player of the Year points, scoring average, and most wins. Notably, she had finished as runner-up in this tournament's final in both 2022 and last year, losing to Jungmin Hong and Hyunkyung Park, but this time she overcame that disappointment.

The tournament featured 64 players divided into groups of four, with each player facing the others once. A win earned 1 point, a draw 0.5 points, and the player with the most points in each group advanced to the round of 16. From the round of 16 onward, the tournament followed a knockout format with head-to-head matches, where a loss meant elimination, all the way to the final.

In the final against Yumin Hwang, Yeawon Lee got off to a shaky start by losing the 1st hole (par 4). However, she took the lead by winning the 2nd and 3rd holes. She continued to dominate by winning the 8th, 10th, and 12th holes, ultimately overwhelming her opponent by four holes. Lee halved the 15th hole (par 4) to clinch the victory early. In the third-place match, Seunghee Noh defeated Jungmin Hong by three holes. The KLPGA Tour will continue with the E1 Charity Open starting on May 23.
