Heo Eunah Reaches Out to Democratic Party: "I Hope Lee Jaemyung's Moderate Conservatism Is Sincere"

Heo Eunah, former leader of the Reform Party who recently left the party, stated, "I am closely watching Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, and his efforts to expand toward moderate conservatives."

According to political sources on May 18, Heo recently posted on Facebook under the title "Is the People Power Party truly conservative now?" In her post, she said, "I hope Lee's moderate conservatism is not just election rhetoric, but a genuine political conviction that reads the times and reaches out to the people."

She criticized, "The People Power Party has used the president as a shield when convenient, and has distanced itself when it became burdensome. Now, with two presidents having left the party?one expelled and one having voluntarily resigned?we must question what conservatism means once again."

She continued, "What we need now is not conservatism centered on power, but conservatism that restores community, responsibility, and common sense. The current People Power Party, caught in a vicious cycle of political irresponsibility, can no longer be called conservative," adding, "I will concretely design the restoration of the healthy conservatism I have dreamed of."

Previously, lawmaker Kim Sangwook, who left the People Power Party, publicly endorsed Lee and joined the Democratic Party on this day. Kim Yongnam, a former lawmaker who was a member of the Saenuri Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party), also declared his support for Lee by participating in his campaign rally in Gwangju the previous day.

In response, the Democratic Party has stated that it is open to recruiting conservative figures for broader outreach, saying it can join hands with anyone who shares its commitment to "ending insurrection."
