Full-Scale Launch of Discovering Promising Innovation Projects
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk has launched the 'Gumi Economic Innovation Forum' to proactively respond to changes in the global economic environment and secure new growth engines for the region.
On May 15, the city held a kickoff meeting for the 'Gumi Economic Innovation Forum' at the Gumi Smart Connect Center, officially embarking on efforts to establish an economic strategy tailored to Gumi.
The meeting was attended by 14 experts from academia, research institutes, and the private sector specializing in economic fields. They shared the forum's objectives and operational direction, and engaged in in-depth discussions on innovative ideas and commercialization strategies for each division.
This year, Gumi City has organized and is operating the 'Gumi Economic Innovation Forum' centered on experts in each field for the first time. The core goal is to develop strategies to improve the structure of Gumi's economy and drive sustainable growth amid rapidly changing global economic conditions and industrial restructuring.
The forum is divided into three divisions: ▲Innovation Ecosystem ▲Regional Manufacturing Innovation ▲Sustainable Growth, with top-level experts in each field participating.
Research meetings for each division will continue through the second half of the year, and at the end of this year, the '2025 Gumi Economic Innovation Forum' will be held to present and report the key innovation projects identified so far.
The city plans to actively utilize the projects discovered through the forum as new national-funded projects in 2026, thereby driving Gumi's economic growth.
Kim Hoseop, Deputy Mayor, who presided over the meeting, stated, "I hope the Gumi Economic Innovation Forum will become a cradle of policy ideas that enable the region's economy to achieve sustainable growth and flexibly respond to rapidly changing environments." He added, "I look forward to the continued creative and actionable proposals from all the experts."
Through this forum, Gumi City aims to establish an economic policy governance system based on public-private collaboration and to plan and promote future promising industries suited to the region's characteristics, thereby leading the industrial city of Gumi toward a new leap forward.
