On May 18, marking the 45th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, local craftsmen officially declared their support for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae Myung at the Craft Street in Yangrim-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju.

The Yangrim Craftsmen Association expressed their support that afternoon at Penguin Village Craft Street in Yangrim-dong, Nam-gu, shouting slogans such as "We support the real Republic of Korea, candidate Lee Jae Myung" and "Now is Lee Jae Myung."

The event was attended by Kim Heeyoung, president of the association, Choi Geumjin, vice president, Kim Donggyun, head of Penguin Village, and Hwang Kyunga, a member of the Nam-gu Gwangju District Council. Lee Sujin, a National Assembly member representing Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, and the nationwide women's committee chair of the Democratic Party, was also present.

Lee Sujin stated, "Candidate Lee Jae Myung prioritizes the recovery of people's livelihoods and the economy above all else, and is a politician who can empathize with those suffering in the lowest places in society. Such a candidate is exactly the person we must join hands with right now."

She continued, "Art has the power to heal people. I hope the connection made here today in Yangrim-dong will continue in the future. Candidate Lee Jae Myung is someone who does not turn away from Gwangju's pain and wishes to remember that suffering together." She added, "In difficult times, please unite for politics that cares for the most vulnerable first and for people-centered politics."

The Yangrim Craftsmen Association stated, "Artists and cultural figures who have been part of Gwangju's history are sending their heartfelt support. We will continue to support politics that connects our community and our lives."
