Awarded to Students Selected in Six Categories Including Academic Excellence
Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province announced that the Changwon Scholarship Foundation held its 2025 scholarship and certificate award ceremony at the Jinhae-gu District Office main conference hall.
The ceremony, held on May 16, was attended by over 220 people, including Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, Kim Eulsun, Chairman of the Changwon Scholarship Foundation, various dignitaries, scholarship recipients, and their parents.
This year, 680 students applied for scholarships following the announcement of the selection plan in March. After an internal review, 422 students were ultimately selected. The total scholarship amount is 512.5 million won, which will be distributed to the students during May.
In particular, university scholarship recipients received their certificates directly at the ceremony, while high school recipients will receive their certificates individually through their respective schools.
By category, 204 high school students received 500,000 won each; 17 Dream Scholarship recipients received 500,000 won each; 20 Local Talent Development Scholarship recipients received 2 million won each; 69 University Academic Scholarship recipients received 2 million won each; 110 University Academic Excellence Scholarship recipients received 2 million won each; and 2 University Descendants of Independence Patriots Scholarship recipients received 2 million won each.
Notably, the Local Talent Development Scholarship was newly established this year to foster talent for the region's future strategic industries, such as defense and port logistics. Twenty outstanding freshmen from related departments at local universities were selected for this scholarship.
Kim Eulsun, Chairman, said, "I hope today's scholarship will be a great source of strength for the students who are the future leaders of Changwon," adding, "The Changwon Scholarship Foundation will continue to be a strong support so that scholarship recipients can pursue their dreams."
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor, offered his congratulations, saying, "I sincerely congratulate all the students and families selected as scholarship recipients," and encouraged them by adding, "I hope you will never forget the encouragement and love you received today and grow into warm-hearted local talents who give back to society."
