Earlier that afternoon, before the eve festival of the 5·18 commemoration held in Geumnam-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju, Seo-gu officials and residents participated in the "March for Democratic Peace." The march started at Gwangju High School, passed Jeonil Building 245, and continued to the Geumnamno 4-ga Station intersection.
Led by Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang, around 300 residents and officials marched with a large banner reading, "Let's Inherit the Spirit of May through the June 3rd Vote!"
The participants drew attention from citizens by chanting the slogan, "The Spirit of May, with Your Precious Vote!" and wore white tops to symbolize the meaning of a clean and fair election.

Mayor Kim stated, "I am experiencing firsthand that changes in everyday life, such as in neighborhood businesses, welfare, and administration, originate from resident participation. Democracy is alive when we participate, but it collapses when we turn away. With this sense of urgency, I hope every eligible voter will exercise their precious right on June 3."
Seo-gu plans to use this campaign to encourage the core value of the Spirit of May?citizen-led participation?to be practiced together with future generations, and will continue efforts to spread a culture of democracy in everyday life.
