Youngjin College President Choi Jaeyoung Urges Nurses to "Care for Patients' Hearts" at Nightingale Pledge Ceremony

The Department of Nursing at Youngjin College (President Choi Jaeyoung) held the "39th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony" at the International Seminar Room on campus on the afternoon of May 16, 2025.


The event was attended by over 280 people, including current nursing students and their parents, President Choi Jaeyoung, faculty and staff, and alumni of the Department of Nursing, who gathered to celebrate the new beginning of the prospective nurses.

Youngjin College President Choi Jaeyoung Urges Nurses to "Care for Patients' Hearts" at Nightingale Pledge Ceremony Students preparing to become nurses are taking the oath at the "39th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony" held on the afternoon of the 16th by the Department of Nursing at Youngjin College.

During the ceremony, 187 second-year nursing students who are about to begin their clinical practice lit candles and pledged to uphold the noble nursing spirit of Nightingale, vowing to fulfill their responsibilities and mission as nurses.


The subsequent program included an encouraging address by President Choi Jaeyoung, a congratulatory speech by Jo Hwasook, Chief Nursing Officer of Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital, a celebratory performance, the presentation of gifts, and the awarding of scholarships by the alumni association of the Department of Nursing, all contributing to a warm and supportive atmosphere.


In his address, President Choi Jaeyoung stated, "Nightingale reminded us that nursing is not simply about treating diseases, but about caring for people," and urged, "I hope you will share your hearts sincerely with patients and practice the true spirit of nursing by tending even to the wounds of the heart, fulfilling your responsibilities and calling."


Meanwhile, the Department of Nursing at Youngjin College was recently officially recognized for its excellent educational capabilities by receiving a "five-year accreditation" in the fourth cycle of nursing education accreditation conducted by the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education.


Additionally, the department has established practical training spaces that reflect the latest clinical environments, thereby strengthening its educational infrastructure to enable students to effectively develop practical skills in settings similar to actual medical sites.


Baek Juyeon, Head of the Department of Nursing, stated, "I hope that students taking their first steps into clinical practice will inherit Nightingale's spirit and grow with pride," and added, "We will continue to enhance our educational capabilities to nurture professional nurses with both practical skills and character, and will actively support our students so that they can become trusted nurses in the local community and medical field."
