Doosan Construction and Hyundai L&C to Jointly Develop Floor Finishing Materials for Inter-Floor Noise Reduction

Joint Development and Certification of Floor Materials
Aimed at Reducing Inter-Floor Noise

Doosan Construction announced on May 16 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hyundai L&C, a comprehensive building materials company, to jointly research floor finishing materials aimed at reducing noise between floors.

Doosan Construction and Hyundai L&C to Jointly Develop Floor Finishing Materials for Inter-Floor Noise Reduction Doosan Construction has signed a business agreement with Hyundai L&C to jointly research floor finishing materials that improve noise between floors. Based on both companies' technologies for reducing inter-floor noise, they will jointly develop high-performance flooring materials with noise reduction capabilities that residents can tangibly experience, and will work together through product launch and performance certification.

This research will focus on “Kangmaru,” the most popular type of flooring in the market, combining Doosan Construction’s inter-floor noise reduction technology with Hyundai L&C’s expertise in Kangmaru to enhance performance and ensure practicality.

The two companies plan to seek certification for the floor impact sound insulation structure of their jointly developed product from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT). After commercialization, they intend to gradually expand their collaboration to include supply contracts and technology dissemination.

Since 2007, Doosan Construction has been conducting research to reduce inter-floor noise and, following the strengthening of noise standards, became the first construction company to obtain certification for inter-floor noise insulation structures. The company has secured various patents and new technologies related to shock-absorbing materials and floor structures to reduce impact noise. With this agreement, Doosan Construction will expand its research scope to include the development of flooring materials.

Hyundai L&C, a specialized building materials company, has operated sheet flooring for over 40 years and has advanced its impact absorption and noise reduction technologies. The company possesses the capability to handle all stages from product development and production to performance testing and patent management.

The Quality Technology Research Center at Doosan Construction stated, "By combining the technologies of both companies, we will be able to respond to the introduction of the post-construction inter-floor noise verification system, under which completion approval cannot be granted if noise standards are exceeded. We will further enhance customer satisfaction by developing products equipped with both functionality and design to solve real-life problems."
