Kim Sangwook Visits Lee Jaemyung's Campaign Rally in Iksan
Kim Sangwook: "I Will Do My Best to Help Lee Jaemyung Become President"
Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, embraced independent lawmaker Kim Sangwook at a campaign rally in North Jeolla Province after Kim declared his support for Lee following his departure from the People Power Party. Lee addressed his supporters, saying, "I hope you will empower him (Kim) so that he can realize the true values of conservatism and rational politics within the Democratic Party."
On May 16, at the East Square of Iksan Station in North Jeolla Province, Lee made these remarks after hugging Kim, who had visited his campaign site. Before Kim took the stage, Lee also asked, "Where is Representative Kim, who was expelled for trying to pursue true conservatism in a fake party?"
Taking the podium, Kim said, "There is a lot of talk about camps such as progressives and conservatives, but the common trait of such people is that they do not work. If you serve the people as your masters, the camp does not matter."
When Kim asked, "Who do you think is the candidate who will become president and create a country where the people are truly the masters, instead of fueling conflict between conservative and progressive camps in Korea?" Lee's supporters chanted "Lee Jaemyung." Kim added, "I will also do my utmost to help Lee become president."
After Kim finished his remarks, Lee asked his supporters to "give an applause as a sign of respect so that he can advocate for and realize the values of rational conservatism within the Democratic Party." Lee continued, "I hope that the politics of Korea will fundamentally change in the future. Until now, normality and abnormality have competed, but from now on, we will strive to set things right."
