Aiming to Open in 2031

On May 16, Gwangmyeong City signed a "basic agreement for promoting the integrated school complex project for Gwangmyeong Elementary School No. 1 (tentative name)" with the Gwangmyeong Office of Education at the city hall's video conference room.
This agreement aims to build an integrated school complex on the school site within the Gwangmyeong 2R area, located at 7-59 Gwangmyeong-dong. Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate on the following: ▲creating internal and external conditions for project promotion ▲mutual sharing of data and information ▲establishing a master plan for project implementation ▲joint use of the site and preparation of project promotion plans ▲establishing and operating a promotion consultative body.
The Gwangmyeong 2R area, where the integrated school complex will be located, consists of a redevelopment apartment complex with a total of 3,344 households. Construction was completed in December last year, and residents have moved in under the name "Trius Gwangmyeong." Originally, an elementary school was planned for the school site within the area, but the plan was canceled because the apartment buildings would have infringed on the school's right to sunlight.
The integrated school complex will be a single building combining both the school and community cultural facilities. The building will have a total of eight floors: the first to third floors will be dedicated to cultural and science spaces for residents, while the fourth to eighth floors will be used for school facilities.
The city and the Office of Education plan to apply for the Ministry of Education's "Integrated School Complex Project" in July to secure national funding for the project. After that, they plan to undergo a feasibility study by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety within the year, and then pass the central investment review next year. If all procedures proceed as planned, the city aims to open the integrated school complex in 2031.
Seungwon Park, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "This integrated school complex is a new solution for the school site where construction was canceled due to sunlight rights issues. We will do our best to meet the expectations of local residents who are hoping for the prompt construction of a school."
