The Uljugun Office Haetteumi Ssireum Team once again proved its status as the nation’s strongest ssireum team by winning the team championship at the Withus Pharmaceutical 2025 Folk Ssireum Yuseong Oncheon Jangsa Ssireum Tournament with an overwhelming performance.

This tournament was held from May 9 to May 15 at the Hanbat National University Gymnasium in Daejeon. The team event took place on the final day, May 15, in a best-of-seven, four-win tournament format. Each team consisted of two athletes each in the Taebaek, Geumgang, and Halla divisions, and one athlete in the Baekdu division.
In the team finals, the Haetteumi Ssireum Team faced off against the Mungyeong City Hall Ssireum Team. In the first match, Lee Seungwon of the Taebaek division defeated Lim Seongkwon of Mungyeong City Hall 2-0, giving his team an early lead. However, in the following match, Ra Hyunmin of the Geumgang division lost 0-2 to Shin Hyunjun, bringing the score back to even.
Despite this, the team quickly turned the tide by winning the next three consecutive matches. Kim Muho of the Halla division defeated Kim Junseok 2-0, and in the same division, Hong Jihun overcame Ma Kwonsu 2-0, giving the team a decisive advantage. In the final Baekdu division match, Son Chunghui sealed the victory by successfully executing an ankle trip against Kim Jongseon of Mungyeong City Hall.
The final score was 4-1. The Uljugun Office Haetteumi Ssireum Team lifted the team championship trophy, defeating Mungyeong City Hall with perfect teamwork and skill.
In this tournament, the Haetteumi Ssireum Team further solidified its reputation as the “nation’s strongest ssireum team” by sweeping the Jangsa titles in three divisions?Sobaek Jangsa Kim Deokil, Geumgang Jangsa No Beomsu, and Halla Jangsa Kim Muho?and capturing the team championship as well.
An official from Uljugun stated, “The Haetteumi Ssireum Team has earned national recognition for its skills through consistent training and teamwork. We will continue to support the team so that it can take pride as the region’s representative ssireum team and help further promote the sport.”
The Uljugun Office Haetteumi Ssireum Team is also leading efforts to expand the base of ssireum in the local community and nurture youth talent, further enhancing the status of Uljugun through its achievements in major national tournaments.
