GAP Certification Training Held
for About 70 Apple and Peach Growers
The Jeongeup City Agricultural Technology Center announced on May 16 that it held an Agricultural Products Quality Management (GAP) certification training session for the production of high-quality and safe agricultural products. The training took place in Lecture Room 1 of the Second Government Complex and was attended by approximately 70 apple and peach growers.
Agricultural Products Quality Management (GAP) is a system that systematically manages various risk factors such as pesticides, heavy metals, and microorganisms throughout the entire process?from production to harvesting, packaging, and distribution?in order to ensure the safety of agricultural products. The goal of this system is to supply consumers with reliable and safe agricultural products.
This training was organized in response to the ongoing increase in consumer interest in food safety. Its purpose was to renew farmers’ awareness of agricultural product safety management and to provide detailed guidance on GAP certification standards and procedures, as well as post-certification management measures. Through these efforts, the aim is to further strengthen consumer trust in Jeongeup’s agricultural products and to realize sustainable agriculture.
The training covered practical information needed by farmers, including the specific preparation process for obtaining GAP certification, standards for the safe use of pesticides, management of cultivation environments, and post-harvest management practices. Participating farmers showed a high level of interest, actively engaging in the training and resolving their questions through a Q&A session.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center stated, "As social demands for the safety of agricultural products continue to grow, it is extremely important for those working in agriculture to correctly understand and actively apply the GAP system in the field." The official added, "We will continue to strengthen educational and promotional activities so that local farmers can produce and effectively manage safe, clean, high-quality agricultural products."
