13.5 Billion Won Allocated This Year... Recognized for Enhanced Safety Management Efforts, Including Introduction of "Sewer Pipeline Construction Checklist" During Maintenance
Gwanak-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Junhee), has been honored as the "Best District" for two consecutive years, following its recognition in the 2024 flood disaster response evaluation among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts, and now winning the "Best Award" in the sewer management evaluation as well.
The "Sewer Management Evaluation" comprehensively assesses the sewer management status promoted by the 25 autonomous districts last year, dividing it into four categories and 20 items: budget and design, maintenance, construction, and policy cooperation.
The district achieved high scores in various areas, including management, maintenance, and construction, and was selected as the "Best District" in this year's sewer management evaluation, following last year's "Excellent District" award, marking a remarkable achievement of winning for two consecutive years.
Last year, the district invested a budget of 18 billion won to improve sewer pipelines that had been in use for over 30 years, successfully repairing and completing a total of 9.4 kilometers of old and defective sewer lines.
In particular, in response to the growing social emphasis on safety management during sewer construction, the district introduced a "Sewer Pipeline Construction Checklist" to ensure thorough safety management and quality assurance before, during, and after construction. The district also carried out dredging inside pipelines before the rainy season to secure flow capacity, and these proactive safety management efforts were recognized.
This year, the district has secured a total budget of 13.5 billion won and plans to actively pursue comprehensive sewer pipeline maintenance projects and improvement projects for aging sewer lines.
With the rainy season approaching, the district is thoroughly cleaning soil and debris from sewer pipelines and rainwater inlets before the monsoon to improve drainage functions and prevent flooding damage in the upcoming summer.
District Mayor Park Junhee stated, "I am delighted that this award is the result of our district's continuous efforts in sewer management and the dedication of our staff to prevent safety accidents," and added, "We will continue to strive to create a disaster-free city and a happy Gwanak-gu to ensure the safety and improve the quality of life for local residents."
