Chief Trade Negotiator Jeong Ingyo Meets USTR Representative, Reaches Consensus on Bilateral Cooperation

Jeong Ingyo, Chief of Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, held a one-on-one meeting with Jaimison Greer, Representative of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on May 15, Jeong met with Greer, who visited Jeju for the APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting, and inquired about the status of negotiations between the United States and major countries regarding U.S. tariff measures.

They also discussed current trade issues between the two countries. The ministry stated, "As Korea is serving as the chair of APEC this year, the two sides reached a consensus on cooperating to achieve more advanced outcomes."

As the chair of this meeting, Jeong is holding a series of bilateral meetings with trade officials from various countries attending the APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting.

On the morning of the same day, he held a bilateral meeting with Li Chenggang, China's Vice Minister of Commerce and International Trade Negotiator, to review the progress of the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations on services and investment, and to discuss measures to stabilize the global supply chain.

The previous day, he also met separately with Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, Secretary of Trade and Industry of the Philippines, and Luis Rosendo Gutierrez Romano, Undersecretary of Foreign Trade at Mexico's Ministry of Economy, to exchange views on ways to promote trade and investment.

On the afternoon of May 16, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Dukgeun is scheduled to attend a meeting with Representative Greer to discuss trade issues.
