"How to Create Island Tourism Content?"... Jeonnam National University Seomnalogue Team Wins Excellence Award at Contest

"How to Create Island Tourism Content?"... Jeonnam National University Seomnalogue Team Wins Excellence Award at Contest Jeonnam National University campus.

Jeonnam National University announced on May 15 that the 'Seomnalogue' team, composed of students from the Department of Culture and Tourism Management, won the Excellence Award at the '2025 Marine Leisure Tourism University Student Idea Contest'.

Seomnalogue proposed a creative tourism content called 'Geumo Log', set on Geumodo Island in Yeosu, and was highly praised for its potential to promote sustainable marine tourism and revitalize the local community.

This contest, hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and organized by the Urban Regeneration Industry Promotion Association and the Marine Leisure Tourism Expo Organizing Committee, was established to discover innovative ideas that could present the future of the marine leisure tourism industry among university students nationwide.

In this competition, the 'Seomnalogue' team proposed a digital detox camp program centered on an original activity called 'Haerugging' (a combination of 'Haerujil' and 'plogging'), receiving high marks for both its practical applicability and its tailored planning for the local region.

'Geumo Log' is a name that combines the nature of Geumodo Island in Yeosu with an analog sensibility, aiming to address digital over-immersion among city dwellers, promote environmental clean-up, and revitalize island tourism simultaneously as a complex tourism model. The team members conducted on-site visits themselves and developed their proposal in detail, achieving the Excellence Award, which is the 'Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Authority President's Award'. They also made a direct presentation at the '2025 Marine Leisure Tourism Expo' held on May 7.

A Jeonnam National University official stated, "This award is not only a testament to the abilities of the individual students, but also an educational achievement of the Department of Culture and Tourism Management, which is realizing creative education based on local resources." The official added, "In particular, the cooperation of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, which supported field experiences such as providing a training ship, was a great help in concretizing the idea."

The Seomnalogue team commented, "Through this contest, we were able to rediscover the potential of the region's islands, and we hope it will continue to lead to sustainable tourism content in the future."
