Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation Launches "100th Anniversary of the Korean Census" Commemorative Coin

The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced on May 15 that it will launch and sell the "100th Anniversary of the Korean Census Commemorative Coin."

This commemorative coin is being released to mark the 100th anniversary of the implementation of the national population and housing census in Korea. Reservations for purchase can be made from today (the 15th) until June 5. Reservation applications are accepted through the corporation's online shopping mall, at branches and websites of NH Nonghyup Bank and Woori Bank nationwide.

The commemorative coin consists of two types of colored silver coins (99.9% pure silver), each with a diameter of 32mm and a weight of 14g. The corporation will produce a limited quantity of 1,000 pieces for each single coin and 3,000 sets for the two-coin set. The sales price is set at 60,500 won for each single coin and 135,000 won for the two-coin set.

Silver Coin I features a design on the obverse side depicting children drawing images of family and homes, emphasizing the importance of family and community. The reverse side harmoniously incorporates the number 100, commemorating 100 years of the census, along with houses and apartments symbolizing living spaces.

Silver Coin II illustrates the development of housing in Korea, from traditional tile-roofed and thatched houses to high-rise apartments, and the reverse side displays key statistical figures and human figures related to the census.

The corporation will sell the commemorative coins through a lottery after the reservation period closes. If the number of applications exceeds the number of coins issued, winners will be selected at random.

If the recipient or delivery address is the same, a maximum of 20 single coins per type and 20 two-coin sets will be registered on the lottery list. In addition, if a reservation is made through abnormal means such as macro programs, the winning status may be canceled or delivery may be restricted.

A representative from the corporation stated, "The census has provided essential basic data for establishing major national policies in areas such as population, housing, education, and welfare, laying the foundation for Korea's advancement to a developed country. We hope that issuing this commemorative coin will raise public awareness of the seriousness of population issues such as low birth rates and an aging society, and encourage interest in addressing these challenges."
