Kakao launched its new corporate messaging product, 'Brand Message,' on May 15. Brand Message is an advertising-type message based on prior consent from recipients. It is designed to enhance the transparency and stability of the existing 'Friend Talk' service, while also improving advertisers' efficiency in utilizing messaging. Brand Message allows messages to be composed in various formats, including images, videos, coupon downloads, and purchases, thereby increasing the effectiveness of information delivery and customer response rates.
Partner companies that comply with the Information and Communications Network Act and KakaoTalk Channel operation policies can send messages using pre-registered templates. In accordance with guidelines from the Korea Communications Commission, only companies that have received transmission qualification certification are allowed to send messages, effectively blocking the possibility of illegal messages being distributed.
Users who receive these messages can clearly identify the sender through the profile displayed at the top of the message. If users do not wish to receive further messages, they can simply tap the 'Block Channel' button within the message to opt out.
Kakao's AD Domain Performance Leader Jeon Hyunsu stated, "Brand Message offers advertisers precise targeting and high message reliability, while providing users with transparent information and the right to choose whether to receive messages." He added, "To protect users, we have established operational policies that go beyond current regulatory standards and are applying autonomous regulation using technology to create a transparent and pleasant messaging environment free from illegal spam."
