Ungsang New Wind!
A New Breeze is Blowing
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will hold the 2025 Yangsan Ungsang Hoeya Festival at the Ungsang Sports Park from June 7 to 8.
This year's festival slogan is "Ungsang New Wind! A New Breeze," and the event aims to celebrate the historical, cultural, and environmental values of the Ungsang region while wishing for a new leap forward for the area.
On the first day, June 7, the festival will open with a large-scale parade reenacting the Joseon Tongsinsa procession from the Yongdang area during the Joseon Dynasty. The parade will feature a total of 16 teams and over 500 participants, including the citizens' traditional music band, local folk performance troupes, artists, and members of the general public.
The opening ceremony will showcase a line rocket performance symbolizing the sunrise over Cheonseongsan Mountain, as well as a Firebird performance wishing for Ungsang's new leap forward. This will be followed by a spectacular opening celebration show featuring popular singers such as Son Bina, Eunice, Yoon Suhyun, and Yang Jiweon.
On June 8, the "New Wind Water Festa" will take place.
This program is inspired by the legend of the rain ritual at Ubulsan Shinsa and the story of Ubulsan Shin raising a new wind (Shinpoong) to drive out Japanese invaders. The event will feature special effects such as water cannons, water blasters, and water bubbles, along with performances by Chuu, Ulala Session, and DJ Kim Sungsoo (Cool), promising a refreshing and dynamic stage.
In particular, the water gun festival, which has been very popular since 2023, will be held on a larger scale this year at the Ungsang Sports Park baseball field. Additional hands-on programs such as duck boat making, a water dance challenge, and a bubble show are expected to attract families and visitors of all ages.
In addition, the festival will feature local cultural performances and experiential and exhibition booths, including the Ungsang Nongcheongjangwon Nori, a youth Korean traditional music concert, and a performance by the Yangsan Boys and Girls Choir. A unique rest area decorated with art shades will also host classical music performances.
Starting May 22, nighttime installations will be illuminated along the Baekdonggyo riverside of the Hoeya River, offering a new visual experience for citizens strolling along the river.
Yangsan Mayor Na Dongyeon, who also serves as the chairman of the Yangsan Ungsang Hoeya Festival Organizing Committee, stated, "This year's Hoeya Festival marks a new beginning for the Ungsang region and will welcome citizens with a variety of programs that harmoniously blend traditional and modern sensibilities. I hope the Hoeya Festival will be a special time that brings passion and vitality to your lives, and I look forward to many people joining us to create precious memories together."
