"A Time of Urgency...
We Must Set Aside Personal Grievances"
Na Kyungwon, Co-Chair of the People Power Party Joint Election Committee, responded to criticism that the party has failed to form a united front ahead of the presidential election by saying, "The thought of a country led by Lee Jaemyung is terrifying," and added, "It is time to set aside personal grievances. I propose that everyone, including former Daegu Mayor Hong Joonpyo and former party leader Han Donghoon, come together so we can resolve this together."
On May 15, during an appearance on SBS Radio's 'Kim Taehyun's Political Show,' Na stated, "The Democratic Party of Korea has complete control over the legislative branch," and argued, "If we were to hand over the presidency in this situation, it would become extremely difficult to maintain the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea, putting the country in a very dangerous state." She continued, "This is a time of such urgency that it is not appropriate to talk about personal disappointments or resentments," and earnestly appealed, "I sincerely urge everyone to set aside their grievances for now and move forward together."
Addressing former Mayor Hong, she said, "I trust in your patriotism. I earnestly appeal for your return," and added, "You have served in the conservative party for a long time because you are convinced that conservative values can help build a better Republic of Korea."
She referred to the attempt to replace the candidate during the consolidation process between presidential candidate Kim Moonsu and former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, saying, "On the day the party replaced the candidate through undemocratic procedures, for the first time in my 23 years as a party member, I wanted to leave the party at dawn." She continued, "I appeal to the people. Even to me, our actions are truly shameful. There are many shortcomings and mistakes, but please forgive us just this once."
Regarding calls for former President Yoon Sukyeol to voluntarily leave the party, she said, "That is a decision for former President Yoon to make himself."
Na also addressed media commentary that the People Power Party must resolve the issue of former President Yoon's status in order to win over centrist voters, saying, "The media keeps criticizing only us," and added, "For every ten stories about the People Power Party, there is only one about Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate," expressing her discontent. She continued, "First of all, presidential candidate Kim Moonsu has clearly stated his position by apologizing for the suffering of the people," and added, "Please wait just a little longer. We will take care of things step by step."
