Lee Jaemyung Gauges Public Sentiment Through Campaign in Jeonnam Region

Joo Cheolhyeon, head of the Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Election Committee, stated, "We are aiming for a voter turnout of 85% and a vote share of 90%." Yang Bunam, head of the Gwangju City Party Committee, said, "We are targeting 90% for both voter turnout and vote share." Lee Wontak, head of the Jeonbuk Provincial Party Committee, also reported, "We are conducting the '99 campaign' to surpass 90% for both turnout and vote share."

In the 20th presidential election in 2022, Lee Jaemyung recorded a vote share of 84.8% in Gwangju, 86.1% in Jeonnam, and 83.0% in Jeonbuk. Setting a goal of 90% is intended to achieve results comparable to those of Kim Daejung, candidate of the National Congress for New Politics, in the 15th presidential election.

On this day, Lee will begin listening to the voices of Honam residents, starting with a YouTube discussion with two young people at the Hwagae Market, located in the border area between Yeongnam and Honam. He is then scheduled to visit, in succession, the Dragons Stadium in Gwangyang, Yi Sunshin Square in Yeosu, Fashion Street in Yeonhyang-dong, Suncheon, and Peace Square in Mokpo.

Cho Seungrae, head of public relations for the campaign committee, explained, "Following a visit the previous day to Busan and Geoje, the hometowns of former President Kim Youngsam, the campaign schedule will conclude in Mokpo, the hometown of former President Kim Daejung."

Meanwhile, independent lawmaker Kim Sangwook, who had previously left the People Power Party, declared his support for Lee Jaemyung on May 15. At a press conference at the National Assembly’s press center, Kim stated, "I believe that only Lee Jaemyung can present an agenda for national unity that transcends factional logic, and that he has both the will and ability to address the nation’s pressing challenges." Kim especially noted, "Even when evaluated by conservative standards, he is the most genuinely conservative candidate."

Although Kim did not announce his intention to join the Democratic Party on this day, he left the possibility open. He said, "I will always consider what I can do, however limited my abilities may be, to help ensure that Lee Jaemyung is remembered in history as a successful president."
