15,000 Gyeonggi Provincial and Fire Officials to Receive Birthday Leave Starting This Year

The Gyeonggi Provincial Council is moving to revise an ordinance to grant special birthday leave to provincial government employees, following a similar measure already in place for council employees.

On May 15, the council announced that Lim Sangoh, chair of the Safety and Administration Committee (People Power Party, Dongducheon 2), plans to propose a partial amendment to the "Gyeonggi Provincial Public Officials Service Ordinance" for legislative notice.

The amendment includes a provision granting one day of special leave during the month of an employee's birthday to public officials affiliated with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

The recipients of the birthday leave will include approximately 4,000 provincial government employees and 11,000 firefighters, totaling about 15,000 people.

The special leave will also be applied retroactively to public officials whose birthdays fell between January 1, 2025 and the effective date of the amended ordinance. However, in such cases, the leave must be used within three months of the ordinance taking effect.

Previously, council employees have been entitled to birthday leave since the beginning of this year, following the amendment of the "Council Public Officials Service Ordinance" in December 2024.
