Gwangju University announced on May 15 that it recently co-hosted an international academic exchange conference with Japan's National Oita University under the theme of "Sustainable Urban Regeneration and the Convergence of Real Estate."

The international academic exchange conference was held on May 9 in the audiovisual room of Tamjin Hall at Gwangju University. Drawing on the academic research capabilities and international networks of both Gwangju University and Oita University, the conference presented a variety of topics and new ideas, including: the utilization rates of bathing taxes by type of hot spring tourist destination; strategies for developing age-friendly urban communities and Gwangju-style silver towns; the potential use of unmanned stations considering historical functions and the potential of station areas; and innovative technologies in smart cities and Gwangju-style smart cities.

Kim Dongjin, President of Gwangju University, said, "This international exchange holds significant meaning for both countries in terms of nurturing talent who will lead the future of local communities. I hope that students will come to understand each other's cultures and establish a foundation for interregional cooperation through entrepreneurial spirit."

Professor Himeno Yuka of Oita University stated, "Through this event, we were able to view regional issues from a global perspective, which was very helpful in finding new solutions. I hope that exchanges between the two universities will continue, and that they will develop into practical joint projects that go beyond simple visits to contribute to regional revitalization."
