SK Chemicals to Supply 2,000 Tons of Plastic to Malaysian Kitchenware Company

Agreement Signed for Supplying Recycled and Bio-based Plastics
Up to 2,000 Tons of "ECOZEN" and "SKYPET CR"
Joint Product Development Targeting Global Brands Also Planned

SK Chemicals has joined forces with LH Plus, a Malaysian manufacturer of plastic kitchenware, to target the eco-friendly plastics market in Southeast Asia.

On May 15, SK Chemicals announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LH Plus and agreed to supply up to 2,000 tons of its sustainable materials, ECOZEN and SKYPET CR, by 2027. The two companies also plan to jointly develop products using these materials to target global brands.

ECOZEN is a copolyester brand containing biomass, characterized by both transparency and heat resistance. Its safety in applications such as food containers and cooking utensils is considered a major advantage, as it is free from bisphenol A, an environmental hormone. SKYPET CR is a recycled material manufactured using a depolymerization technology that breaks down waste plastics at the molecular level and re-synthesizes them. It can achieve the same quality as petroleum-based PET, making it suitable for hygienic applications such as food and tableware.

The maximum 2,000 tons of raw materials to be supplied under the agreement is enough to produce approximately 100 million 1-liter water bottles. Based on this, SK Chemicals aims to meet the demand for eco-friendly materials centered on Southeast Asia and is considering the potential for expansion to global brands.

LH Plus is a mid-sized Malaysian manufacturer that produces about 6 million kitchen containers annually. The company maintains a leading position in the local kitchenware market in terms of production and sales volume, and is known to supply products to global brands in North America and Asia on an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) basis.

Eungsoo Kim, Head of Green Materials Business Division at SK Chemicals, said, "The adoption rate of environmentally friendly materials in the kitchenware industry in the Asia-Pacific region has been steadily increasing. Through our collaboration with LH Plus, we will provide optimized material solutions and accelerate our efforts to capture the kitchenware market."
