'Suyuk Run' Returns... 19th Geumcheon Love Marathon to Be Held

Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that the 19th Geumcheon-gu Athletics Federation President’s Cup Geumcheon Love Marathon will be held on May 18 at the Anyangcheon Multipurpose Square area.

Hosted by the Geumcheon-gu Sports Council and sponsored by the Geumcheon-gu Office, the Geumcheon-gu Athletics Federation President’s Cup Geumcheon Love Marathon is one of the district’s representative marathon events, alongside the Geumcheon-gu Mayor’s Cup Health Run. Both events are well-known as so-called “Suyuk Run” marathons, where participants can enjoy suyuk (boiled pork slices) and Makgeolli regardless of whether they finish the race.

This year’s marathon features a 5 km course starting from Anyangcheon Multipurpose Square, passing Cheolsan Bridge and returning to the starting point, as well as a 10 km course with Gueil Station as the turnaround point before returning. A total of 500 participants are expected to run through the course.

After completing the race, participants will be served warm suyuk, tofu with kimchi, and refreshing Makgeolli. The event promises a unique marathon experience exclusive to Geumcheon-gu, where runners can “run with energy and eat heartily.”

In fact, the online registration for this year’s event, which began at 10:00 a.m. on April 15, closed almost instantly, demonstrating the high level of anticipation among participants. Afterwards, social media and online platforms were filled with posts showing proof of registration, as well as messages from those expressing disappointment at missing out this year.

Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Thank you for the tremendous interest,” and added, “We will do our utmost to actively support the event so that everyone can enjoy running along the beautiful scenery of Anyangcheon under the blue May sky.”
