City Points Awarded for Achieving Daily Step Goals
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 15 that it has completed the development of the walking app "Georeoyong" and officially launched the service to help citizens maintain their health through daily walking.
"Georeoyong" is an app developed as part of the Singal Five-way Smart City Regeneration Project to support citizens' health management. It is available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The app features an intuitive main screen with menus such as walking courses, step ranking, virtual tree growing, and point conversion, making it easy for anyone to use. It also recommends personalized walking routes based on the user's health status and preferences.
The "City Points" earned through the app can be converted into "Yongin Y-Pay," the local currency of Yongin. Users aged 65 and older receive up to 100 City Points per day for walking more than 5,000 steps, while those under 65 receive the same reward for walking more than 8,000 steps. Users can also earn 20 to 100 points by verifying visits to recommended walking spots or popular tourist attractions through the app.
The virtual tree that users can nurture in the app can be watered according to the number of steps taken, and it bears fruit once it reaches the fifth growth stage. The app also features a step ranking system, encouraging health management through fun and competition.
A city official stated, "'Georeoyong' is designed so that even elderly citizens who may find digital devices challenging can easily participate," adding, "We will establish digital welfare policies that combine new technologies and creative ideas to improve the quality of life for our citizens."
