Seongdong-gu Completely Renovates Guidance Facilities for No Parking or Stopping Near Firefighting Facilities

Seongdong-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Jung Wonoh) announced that it has completely renovated its guidance facilities for "No Parking or Stopping Near Firefighting Facilities" in order to prevent illegal parking and stopping around firefighting facilities.

Fire hydrants are essential facilities that supply water to fire trucks in the event of a fire. According to the current Road Traffic Act, parking or stopping is strictly prohibited within 5 meters of fire hydrants and other firefighting-related facilities. Violators are subject to a fine of 90,000 won for vans and 80,000 won for passenger cars.

The district has previously marked the curbs separating the roadway from the sidewalk near fire hydrants with red paint to indicate the "No Parking or Stopping Near Firefighting Facilities" zone. However, over time, the paint has worn off, reducing visibility and effectiveness.

To address this, the district has renovated the facilities by installing red curb covers indicating the parking and stopping prohibition for firefighting facilities at 38 locations within the district, including 51 Seongsu-ro. The newly attached covers offer greater visibility and durability compared to the previous paint, making it easier to clearly identify illegal parking and stopping zones.

In particular, as large-scale fires have occurred frequently in recent times, highlighting the importance of swift fire response, this renovation is expected to help secure the golden time in the event of a fire and contribute to residents' safety.

The district plans to further strengthen its rapid fire response system by securing additional target locations through cooperation with related organizations such as the fire department and police, while continuing to maintain and manage the facilities.

Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "Since an initial response is the most important factor in fire suppression, we are working to eradicate illegal parking and support smooth firefighting operations by renovating the guidance facilities for 'No Parking or Stopping Near Firefighting Facilities.' I ask for residents' voluntary cooperation, and we will do our utmost to implement policies that ensure the safety of all residents in their daily lives."
