Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will hold the "2025 Yangsan Ungsanghoe Yaje" over two days, from June 7 to June 8, at Ungsang Sports Park.
This year’s festival slogan is "Ungsang New Wind! A New Breeze." The event is designed as a meaningful festival that captures the historical, cultural, and environmental values of the Ungsang region and wishes for a new leap forward for the area.
On the first day, June 7, the festival will open with a large-scale parade reenacting the Joseon Tongsinsa procession from the Joseon Dynasty’s Yongdang area. The parade will feature a total of 16 teams and more than 500 participants, including the Citizen Chwita Band, local folk troupes, artists, and ordinary citizens.
The opening ceremony will include a line rocket performance symbolizing the sunrise over Cheonseongsan Mountain and a Firebird performance wishing for Ungsang’s new leap forward. This will be followed by a spectacular opening celebration show featuring popular singers such as Son Bina, Eunice, Yoon Suhyun, and Yang Jiweon.
On June 8, the "Shinpoong Water Festa" will take place. Inspired by the legend of the Ubul Mountain Shrine’s rain ritual and the story of Ubul Mountain God raising a new wind (Shinpoong) to drive out Japanese invaders, this program will present a refreshing and dynamic stage with special effects such as water cannons, water guns, and water bubbles, along with performances by Chuu, Ulala Session, and DJ Kim Sungsoo (Cool).
In particular, the water gun festival, which has gained great popularity since 2023, will be held even more extensively this year in the baseball field area of Ungsang Sports Park. Various hands-on programs such as duck boat making, water dance challenge, and bubble show will be added, raising expectations among families attending the festival.
In addition, regional cultural performances and experience/exhibition booths will be offered, including the Ungsang Nongcheongjangwon Nori, Youth Korean Traditional Music Stage, and Yangsan Boys and Girls Choir performance. There will also be classical music performances at a unique rest area decorated with art shades.
Starting May 22, nighttime installations will be illuminated along the riverside of Baekdonggyo Bridge on the Hoeya River, providing a new attraction for citizens taking evening strolls along the river.
Na Dongyeon, mayor of Yangsan and chairman of the Yangsan Ungsanghoe Yaje Organizing Committee, stated, "This year’s Hoe Yaje is a festival that marks a new beginning for the Ungsang region. We will welcome citizens with a diverse array of programs that harmoniously blend traditional and modern sensibilities. I hope this festival will be a special time that brings passion and vitality to everyone’s lives, and I look forward to many people joining us to create precious memories together."
