Applications Accepted Until July 7
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on May 14 that, together with the Korea Culture Information Service Agency, it will be accepting applications for the '2025 Culture Digital Innovation and Data Utilization Contest' until July 7.
This contest, established to promote digital innovation in the cultural sector and the use of cultural data, is jointly organized by six leading cultural institutions: the Korea Culture Information Service Agency, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, Korea Tourism Organization, Arts Council Korea, Korea Copyright Commission, and Korea Creative Content Agency.
The contest seeks to discover creative ideas, outstanding cases, and data analyses that combine digital technology and cultural data to address issues across all areas of culture, sports, and tourism, with public participation. In particular, in line with the era of artificial intelligence (AI) coexistence, a new category for 'AI Utilization Cases' has been introduced, and 'AI Utilization' has been added as an evaluation criterion, aiming to identify innovative services and ideas that will create new cultural value.
The contest will be held in a total of four categories: outstanding cases, ideas, data analysis, and AI utilization cases.
Any citizen of the Republic of Korea may participate in the contest individually, as a business or team of up to five members. Participants in the cultural data category must use data that is open to the public from institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, public institutions, the Culture Public Data Plaza, or the Culture Big Data Platform. Those wishing to participate must submit an application and related documents via the contest's official website between June 2 and 2 p.m. on July 7.
After the first round of document screening and a second round of presentations, a total of 17 entries will be selected, with results to be announced in August. Award-winning entries will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a total of 54 million won in prize money. In the 'AI Utilization Cases' category, one outstanding case and one idea will each receive a special award. The final selections in the cultural data category will advance to the integrated finals of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Government-wide Public Data Utilization Startup Competition.'
The awards ceremony will take place at the '2025 Culture Digital Innovation Forum' (November 18, Seoul), where the grand prize (Minister's Award) winner will present their work. The forum will also feature a digital technology experience and promotion hall hosted by participating institutions, as well as various side events, including an expert panel discussion on cultural enjoyment based on artificial intelligence.
Lee Jeongmi, Director of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "This contest is more than a simple competition; it is a stage for citizen-led AI transformation (AX). We expect that the creativity of the public will help complete cultural sovereignty in the AI era through this contest."
