Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on May 13 that it had been recognized as an outstanding city and county within South Jeolla Province in the 2025 Local Government Joint Government Evaluation (for 2024 performance) organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The Joint Government Evaluation, conducted annually by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is a system that assesses and compares each local government by dividing the implementation status of major national policies and other initiatives into two categories: quantitative and qualitative.

In the qualitative evaluation category, the city had 16 initiatives selected as best practices, including the creation of a safe environment for pregnancy and childbirth, revitalization of elementary after-school care, promotion of policies to expand cultural accessibility, improvement of the local emergency patient transport and admission system, and promotion of bicycle use.

Through systematic municipal administration, such as strengthening interdepartmental collaboration and advancing the goal management system, the city achieved first place among city-level governments and second overall out of 22 cities and counties in South Jeolla Province. As a result, the city secured financial incentives, including 130 million won in project funds and 21 million won in reward money.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu stated, "This achievement is thanks to the dedicated efforts of our public officials." He emphasized, "We will continue to actively respond to the changing administrative environment and do our utmost to improve the quality of life for our citizens by steadily promoting strategic projects such as the three major economic pillars?culture, space, and bio?as well as the healing tourism industry and smart city initiatives."
