He emphasized, "Just as YS once advocated for the '40s leadership theory,' we must now boldly push aside the old, incompetent, and corrupt established political forces, and create a new generation of young, fresh, and capable political leaders."

Kim argued that the People Power Party has become a disorganized group and claimed that after the presidential election, it will be reduced to a 'TK (Daegu-Gyeongbuk) United Liberal Democrats.' He continued, "We must build a truly national party centered on distinguished individuals," and added, "Though my abilities may be limited, I also intend to actively support the emergence of a new reform party."

In response to Kim's declaration of support, candidate Lee wrote on Facebook, "The indomitable commitment to democracy that President Kim Young Sam held in his youth now strikes me with overwhelming freshness," and added, "I, too, am determined to carry on that spirit and move forward toward a new Republic of Korea." He continued, "I am deeply grateful for Chairman Kim's declaration of support," and emphasized, "As the recognized successor of the '40s leadership theory,' I will not forget that vision and will steadfastly walk the path of political reform."
