Expectations for Income Diversification
Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Oh Dochang) is working to increase non-farming income for local farmers by operating an Agricultural Product Processing Support Center, which supports agricultural product processing startups and adds value to agricultural products.
The Agricultural Product Processing Support Center has so far supported the establishment of eight farm-based startups and reported the manufacturing of 19 different product types. By using agricultural products grown directly by Yeongyang County farmers to produce processed goods, the county is looking beyond simple sales of raw produce and has high expectations for increasing non-farming income through the sale of processed products.
In particular, Jung Ho Kim, CEO of Cheonggi-myeon Antioxidant Eco Farm, said, "By utilizing the Agricultural Product Processing Support Center for the entire process of developing and producing the 'Jung Ho Kim Ilwol Premium Saffron Tea' processed product, I was able to reduce the cost of failed product development. The 'Excellent Processed Product Branding and Marketing Support Project' was also a great help in revitalizing marketing. With this support, I was able to conduct Wadiz funding and sold an initial 100 sets by testing the market response to the new product launch."
Jo Yongwan, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "We will continue to do our best to foster processing startup farms and improve non-farming income by developing a variety of processed agricultural products and supporting safe and systematic agricultural product processing facilities."
