81 Second-Year Gangjin Middle School Students Experience Japanese Culture

Full County Funding for Overseas History and Culture Exploration Program

Gangjin County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gang Jinwon) announced on the 13th that on May 12, Gang Jinwon attended a safety education session at the Gangjin Middle School library to encourage 81 second-year students from Gangjin Middle School before their departure for a history and culture exploration trip to Japan.

Starting on May 13, Gangjin Middle School students will broaden their horizons and experience the culture of a neighboring country through a variety of activities, including visiting the 2025 Osaka Expo, the site of the prison where independence activist Yun Bonggil was held (Osaka Castle), the monument to poet Yun Dongju at Kyoto Prefectural University, as well as other historical sites and popular destinations such as Dotonbori in Osaka.

The county's special overseas history and culture exploration support program provides local youth with opportunities to experience overseas history and culture, helping them develop international awareness and a broader perspective. Through these trips, students visit historical sites related to Korea, experience local culture firsthand, and cultivate a global mindset.

The overseas history and culture exploration program, which began in 2018 as the first of its kind among cities and counties in South Jeolla Province, has continued to operate to this day. Initially, Gangjin County partially funded the program, but due to its recognized educational effectiveness, full county funding was introduced last year. The per-student support amount was increased from 1 million won to 1.1 million won, reducing the financial burden on parents and further enhancing the quality of the trips.

Governor Gang Jinwon stated, "This overseas history and culture exploration program is a meaningful initiative that provides local youth with the opportunity to experience a wider world," and added, "I hope that students will grow into talented local individuals with global competence, based on the experiences they gain during this trip."
