"Korea Customs Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seek Customs Administration Cooperation in Response to Trade Policy Changes"

The Korea Customs Service announced on May 13 that, on May 9 (local time), Park Heon, Director General of International Customs Cooperation, held a cooperation meeting in Washington, D.C. with Ha Sunghyun (HA, Sung H.), Executive Director of International Affairs at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

"Korea Customs Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Seek Customs Administration Cooperation in Response to Trade Policy Changes"

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the country's first border management agency, combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural and livestock quarantine functions into a single organization responsible for border management.

The meeting was held as part of the "Customs Administration Response Strategy to U.S. Administration's Tariff Policy," which was announced at the External Economic Ministers' Meeting last month, in order to strengthen the mutual cooperation framework between the two countries' customs authorities.

During the meeting, the chief representatives of both countries identified key interests and positions of their respective customs authorities and explored mutually beneficial customs cooperation measures.

In particular, the Korea Customs Service conveyed difficulties and suggestions related to customs clearance experienced by local Korean businesses to U.S. Customs and Border Protection through a meeting with locally established companies, and requested that the agency provide customs information needed by Korean companies.

The Korea Customs Service plans to continue strengthening cooperation with U.S. customs authorities to create a favorable trade environment for Korean companies operating in the United States.
