Full-Scale Response to Heatwaves, Heavy Rain, and Infectious Diseases
Gangbuk-gu in Seoul will fully implement the "2025 Comprehensive Summer Measures" from May 15 to October 15. This initiative will focus on four key areas?heatwaves, flood control, safety, and health?with 22 departments working in close cooperation to protect the lives and property of residents.

The district will establish a Heatwave Countermeasure Headquarters, placing emphasis on protecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and homeless. It will operate 85 cooling shelters, which will extend their hours into the evening during heatwave advisories. The district will also strengthen welfare checks and in-person visits for seniors living alone and those with chronic illnesses. Additionally, the number of shade canopies at crosswalks and traffic islands will be increased to 96, while smart shelters and street water spraying will also be implemented.
To prepare for flood and wind disasters, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters will be activated in stages. The district will operate 46 river isolation prevention barriers, conduct pre-inspections of flood-prone areas and flood control facilities, and deploy special patrol teams to inspect storm drains. Safety inspections of public offices, apartment complexes, and multi-use facilities will be intensified, with immediate on-site corrections and focused management of critical issues.
To prevent summer infectious diseases and food poisoning, the district will extend its text alert service through October and expand the installation of automatic insect repellent dispensers to 44 locations. Efforts will also be made to ensure hygiene and safety through fine dust and ozone alert systems, swimming pool water quality management, handwashing education programs, and pest control activities.
Lee Sunhee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, "As this summer is forecast to be hotter and rainier than usual, all departments will make every effort to ensure that all residents can stay safe and healthy. Our top priority will be providing meticulous protection for neighbors who are vulnerable to heatwaves and flood disasters."
