Sacheon Advances as a Hub for Aviation Maintenance
Project Progresses Smoothly Toward Year-End 2025 Completion
The Yongdang (Aviation MRO) General Industrial Complex Development Project, promoted by Sacheon City and South Gyeongsang Province, had achieved an 85% completion rate as of May 2025 and is progressing smoothly toward its goal of completion by the end of the year.
The Yongdang (Aviation MRO) General Industrial Complex is being developed as a specialized industrial complex for aviation maintenance (MRO, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) in Yongdang-ri, Sacheon-eup, Sacheon City. The total area is 299,765 square meters, and the project cost of 175.9 billion won is being jointly funded by Sacheon City and South Gyeongsang Province.
Despite challenging financial circumstances, Sacheon City is making an all-out effort to complete the project by the end of 2025 in order to become a leading city for aviation maintenance.
The Yongdang (Aviation MRO) General Industrial Complex Development Project began construction in 2019 and is being carried out in three phases. The first and second phases were completed in February, and the site is now actively serving as a core hub for future aviation MRO activities. Aviation maintenance companies such as Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Korea Aviation Engineering & Maintenance Service (KAEMS) are constructing hangars and maintenance hangar buildings on the site.
In addition, the relocation housing (relocation complex and support facilities) being developed alongside the industrial complex is in its final stage, aiming for completion in June 2025. Bidding is currently underway nationwide on Onbid, the government-designated information processing system.
The area surrounding the Yongdang (Aviation MRO) General Industrial Complex is home to Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Korea Aviation Engineering & Maintenance Service (KAEMS). In particular, KAEMS is a specialized company for civil aircraft maintenance (MRO) and performs heavy maintenance and modification work for domestic and international airlines. Upon completion of the industrial complex, there are high expectations for attracting significant maintenance demand and expanding into the global market.
The city expects that, once the industrial complex is completed, it will be able to address the issue of relying heavily on foreign countries for aviation maintenance demand, secure the autonomy and competitiveness of the aviation industry, and establish Sacheon City as a key hub for the aerospace industry in Korea.
A city official stated, "The Yongdang (Aviation MRO) General Industrial Complex is more than just a maintenance complex; it is a core asset that will elevate Sacheon to the hub of aviation maintenance in Northeast Asia," adding, "We will foster Sacheon as the 'Aerospace Capital of Korea' by linking it with related infrastructure."
