After a post appeared on the Chinese e-commerce platform AliExpress advertising bags printed with the face of former President Chun Doohwan, a May organization responded by sending a letter of protest.

"Chun Doohwan Bags for Sale"... May 18 Foundation Requests Sales Ban on AliExpress Bag Engraved with Jeon Duwhan's Face. May 18 Memorial Foundation

On May 12, the May 18 Memorial Foundation announced that it had sent an official letter to AliExpress Korea on May 9, requesting a ban on the sale of products using photos of the former president.

On May 8, a listing appeared on AliExpress for a bag featuring the face of the former president along with the phrase "THE SOUTH FACE."

The seller, who operates a store based in Singapore, described the bag as a "creative canvas bag" and listed it for sale at approximately 15,000 won.

In its letter, the May 18 Memorial Foundation stated, "Bags featuring Chun Doohwan's image distort and disparage the history of democracy in Korea, including the May 18 Democratization Movement." The foundation added, "Just as products featuring Japan's 'Rising Sun Flag' or Germany's Nazi 'Hakenkreuz' are unacceptable, products featuring Chun Doohwan's image should not be sold. We request a ban on the sale of these products and a review of relevant regulations."

The listing has since been removed from AliExpress and is no longer searchable or available for purchase.
