The Jeonnam Provincial Council formed the "Jeonnam Provincial Special Committee for Crisis Response in the Petrochemical and Steel Industries" to efficiently address the crisis facing the petrochemical and steel industries in the eastern region, and held its first meeting on May 9.
This special committee is composed solely of lawmakers from the Yeosu and Gwangyang areas, and was established to enable proactive response and systematic support measures at the provincial level. The committee consists of a total of 10 members: Chairman Seo Daehyun (Yeosu 2), Vice Chair Park Kyungmi (Gwangyang 4), Vice Speaker Lee Gwangil (Yeosu 1), Kang Moonseong (Yeosu 3), Choi Byungyong (Yeosu 5), Choi Mugyeong (Yeosu 4), Kang Jeongil (Gwangyang 2), Joo Jongsup (Yeosu 6), Lim Hyungseok (Gwangyang 1), and Kim Hwashin (proportional representation).
Chairman Seo Daehyun (Yeosu 2) stated, "The petrochemical and steel industries are the core industries and employment base of the Jeonnam economy, but they are currently entering a serious crisis phase. I urge the government to provide more substantial financial support and to quickly establish a roadmap for industrial restructuring. I will take the lead in developing realistic and sustainable policy alternatives to ensure the survival and restore the competitiveness of local industries."
